I totally forgot about that post promising I'd update. Unfortunately, since I have such good reasons, I can't really summon the energy to feel bad about breaking that particular promise. Here are some pics of the house so far to make up for it. I might even include a video or two.
will edit to add vids
Hello, my fined feathered. I have internet access for an extended point right now so I shall try to stitch together some kind of cohesive update. I haven't had a good meal today so don't expect anything great.
List of things we still don't have:
WATERHEATER! (it went BOOM)
HEATER! (Brrr)
REFRIGERATOR (No Milk Makes Denial and Rain's Bones Suffer and their cereal. Our cereal suffers greatly. Well, if we had cereal)
?Stove? (We have two stoves. Neiither the one we wanted. One is electric but I do not like electric stoves)
GAS! (No BeanO jokes, people. We seriously have no gas running to the house. Since PGE said "No BOOM")
RODS AND DRAPES! (I can't tell you how much it HURTS to put sheets up but for now we must. Gah!)
KITCHEN COUNTER and Sink! (Rain's WIP. It'll be great when finished.)
Dog (I want a dog for protection at least! Our neighbor was robbed the first day we moved in)
INTERNET (sad but other things take precedent)
CABLE (see INTERNET)
A lot is set up. The house is working really nicely. I really feel at home there but that might be because I had been spending every day all day there for more than two weeks before we actually moved in and a lot of the old furniture has made the move with us. Here is a picvideo. I just don't really want to upload one by one.
Sorry, you guys. We don't have internet access yet at the house. In fact this is the first time I've been able to check my mail in over a week. Hopefully, once I get better access I'll be able to update appropriately!
Love,
Denial
And I haven't packed a single thing. :D
I must fix this soonest.
Oh, and I've had two meals (one of them might not count) in the last two days.
I must fix this soonest.
I should put some of the media from the last couple days up on the Project's vox.
I fix this now.

BTW, people, remember when I told everyone to bet how long it'd take me to cry at the sight of a paintbrush. I hit that point this morning. But I'm better now. I got a nap. And hopefully will be getting more sleep very soon. Rain had today off as well as tomorrow and wednesday. We're hoping to have the Kitchen Counter/Sink Ordeal over with in that time. We're hoping. You see . . . there's something special about that counter and thus sink that we hadn't realized before.
Know what they didn't really have to take into consideration in the 1920's? Lots of electrical things left out on the counter. Such as coffee makers, toasters, cell phone chargers. Nope, none of that. So their counters did not need to be so wide. 21 inches was fine! Our house was made in the 1920s and obviously believed in this. Counters nowadays are in fact made with coffee makers, toaster, and other electrical staples in mind. So you can't find a premade counter less than 25 inches wide. You can't find a sink less than 22. Oh, I kid you not. We can't build out to 25 inches because of the doorway into the sunroom. At most we could get 22 inches at the doorway into the sunroom. If we went as far as possible on the otherside (into the breakfast nook) we could get 24 inches. Maybe. But we can't have a crooked counter like that. It was a miracle they were even able to get a 21 inch sink in there before. You can't find 21 inch sinks anymore. And the only reason that one KINDA fit was because they cut out a whole and pushed it into the wall. Oh god. I thought I was gonna cry. And then Rain and her Gpa took to tearing it apart and that made me feel better. We're going to be cutting and building and making it work. It's just going to take a bit more work than we first thought on the sink. Enjoy the demo stuff:
We all agreed it actually looks so much better right now (all torn out to the good bones) than it did before. At least now it doesn't look like a health hazard. I'm not quite sure what's going on in the area now. But that's Rain's project so ask her about it. I'm leaving it all in her much more capable hands.
BTW, since we are talking about appendages, can we discuss my toe? Yes, my toe. No, this isn't Rain. This is Denial. Discussing her toe, yes. I am a Cali girl through and through I must say. Thus, my feet do not like wearing closed toe shoes. In the beginning of this house work, I wore closed toe shoes and it made my big toe's nails go numb. I asked Tabby if this was normal but she said something unhelpful like, "Maybe." Grr. My big toe nails are bruised! I hope I don't lose my toenail. To stem the suggestions and questions, no the shoes are not too big. No they are not too small. No nothing fell on my toes. It's just that my feet are not used to closed toe shoes and I wore them for long periods for several days and so it bruised my toe nails. Here's a pic:
All the white stuff is paint. That purple spot on my toe nail? Bruise! Ouchie! The other one has a little but not so bad. So I went around shoeless the last couple days. The front security door was kicked out on the bottom. Guess what? It's SHARP. And it bends out and comes looking for defenseless feet. It's gotten me twice. First time was obviously a warning.
Not too bad. Only a little blood drawn. And then yesterday, it decided to play dirty. It reached out and tore the tip of my toe! Yes, the bruised one! It's terrible. There was blood. This morning, Rain brought some stuff and we cleaned it and put tagaderm over it. So the blood is mostly gone. But it's not happy. I had to hold my toe at an angle to get a proper pic:
It no longer is covered in blood but you see what I mean when I say it tore my toe. My poor toe. I am wearing sandals now but not closed toe ones. Still, hope I don't lose the toe. BTW, the toes only red like that because I'm holding it up at a weird angle to take the pic. I think it'll be fine if it doesn't need to be amputated.
We went back tonight to do some painting. Here's something funny we saw on the way:
Made us LOL. Here's some pics from the painting experience tonight because I need to wrap this up and go to bed:
(That one was taken a couple days ago during the day)
This morning started with Rain and me going to Home Depot. We got lots of paint. I now have a favorite person to mix our paint. She's really good. However, I find the fact that I recognize Heather and her paint talents to be a hint that I have been spending more time in Home Depot than I ever truly desired. Rain however has finally met one of her great desires. That is, to have a Home Depot credit card. (BTW, both of our cards arrived in the mail today and my gma brought them over. That was nice.)
We went looking for door knobs and hinges and locks. Oh and nails. The problem was to find door knobs that went the right way. And to find hinges that could hold heavy ass doors made many years ago when they used good wood on such things. And the problem was to find locks that all shared the same key. And we had no idea what size of nails we needed. Something about 10 and 12....??? Oh, and I kinda wanted our hardware to be silver because I have this thing about silver. However, I wasn't going to mention that since Rain was getting frustrated with the door debacle already. Still, we ended up getting silver because she is kind to my idiosyncrosies and they probably fulfilled all other parameters of need... I am happy in the silver-ness.
Then she pissed off one of the Home Depot people while asking about nails. Mostly because she joked about going in a section that was blocked off because a crane was working in the other aisle. The lady was not amused. I dusted off hammers and acted like I was blithely unaware. And the hammers needed dusting. Rain told me to stop cleaning the hardware store.
I went to fetch the mixed paint while she went to ask someone who was supposed to know about the hinges.. . um about the hinges. I loaded all the paint and went over to find her all a huff. Apparently the guy who was supposed to know his shit ended up not knowing shit. I told her to slow down since pushing nine gallons (and a quart!) of paint (nonetheless the door hardware and toiletseat) was very difficult when trying to keep up with her. Especially while maintaining my dignity. That was when I remembered we actually needed another gallon of semi-gloss Innocense. So we had to return to the paint section (and an amused Heather) to have the lady mix up another gallon. Rain grabbed a half dozen hinges, heavy-door appropriate or not be damned, and we went out.
A guy in the parking lot saw the amount of paint we had and said, "Aww! You girls would've saved so much money if you'd just gotten the five gallon tubs!"
Rain replies, "Yeah but each one is a different color."
"Really?"
"Yeah. And we've already bought several of the five gallon tubs."
Seriously this is a crazy amount of paint, people. So we returned to the house. I believe Rain's gpa was already there. Today, he not only reversed the back door (which was being v. obstinate) so that the hinges are on the inside but also put a maple wood surround on the outside so people can't get at the door mechanics from the outside at all. And he replaced the locks on the back door. Rain and Tabby replaced the lock and knob on the front door. Tabby and myself did a lot more of the painting.
It was a productive (and tiring) day. I think tomorrow Tabby and I are planning to finish the trim painting (which mostly means the kitchen) and then begin painting with the colors. Rain would like for all the painting to be done by Monday since we'd like to start the process of replacing the kitchen counter and sink then.
Oh, and I got a very amusing piece of news in the mail but maybe I shouldn't mention the specifics of that on here? Suffice to say, mighty amusing. In the "Oh god no!" type of way.
Some pics:
We've bought 19 gallons of paint so far. And we've used most of it already. But according to my calculations, we shall need about 9 gallons and 2 quarts more of paint. That'll be 28 gallons and 2 quarts of paint in all. Just for the internal part of the house. Conservatively.
Wow.
Tabby and I have been going over the primer and putting semi-gloss on the trim and cabinetry for two days. We're doing more tomorrow. And then we should start on the main colors in the rooms.
Anyone want to guess how long it takes before I cry at the sight of a paint brush?
